Terms & Privacy

1. What the service is

RaceWell gives you an hour-by-hour weather forecast along your race's route, timed to your own average speed and checkpoint stops. Access is delivered instantly and digitally: sign up, and (during a free-access period, or after paying the once-off pass price shown on the site) the planner is available in your browser immediately. Your pass is valid through the race weekend of the event it was bought for.

2. Independence from the race

RaceWell is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, connected to, or endorsed by any race organiser, and each event's name is used only to describe which race's route a forecast covers. Checkpoint details are drawn from publicly available race information and may change — the organisers' official rider communications always take precedence.

3. Weather disclaimer & your safety

Forecasts are estimates produced by numerical weather models (data from MET Norway) and can be wrong — particularly in mountainous or remote terrain, where conditions vary sharply over short distances and change quickly. The service is provided for general planning information only. It is not a substitute for the race organisers' instructions, official South African Weather Service warnings, mandatory kit requirements, or your own judgement on the day.

You ride at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RaceWell accepts no liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from decisions made in reliance on the forecasts or from the service being unavailable, including on race day.

4. Payments & refunds

• Payment is a once-off amount, in South African Rand, taken on the secure checkout page of our payment provider rather than on RaceWell. The full card number is entered there and is never sent to us — we cannot see it. What reaches us is the provider's confirmation that the payment succeeded; clause 6 lists what that confirmation contains.
• The certification below is our provider's own published claim about itself. We quote it rather than restate it, and we have not audited it. Our payment provider published the following in its support documentation, read on 2 September 2026:

  “PCI DSS 3.2 compliant as a Level 1 Service Provider (loosely referred to as PCI Level 1 compliance). This is the highest, most stringent level of certification possible in the global payments industry.”

  “The Vault encrypts cardholder data using a 2048 RSA Key with 3DES 112-bit encryption, before storing it in its database.”

• If you paid but can't access the service, contact support@race-well.com and we'll fix it or refund you in full.
• Otherwise, all sales are final: we don't offer refunds for change of mind once payment is complete.

5. Your account & acceptable use

• Access is personal and non-transferable: one account, one rider (or one team sharing a single device). Pages are watermarked with your account email.
• Don't share your login, republish, or redistribute the forecast content. We may suspend accounts used this way, with a refund at our discretion.
• You're responsible for keeping your password confidential. You can reset it any time via the sign-in page.

6. Privacy (POPIA)

We collect the minimum needed to run the service:

• Your email address — used to sign you in, send account emails (welcome, payment confirmation, password resets), and service updates relevant to your pass.
• Your mobile number — used only for race-week weather alerts about your event (for example a final-forecast message before the start). Never sold, never shared, and never used for unrelated marketing.
• Your password — stored only as a cryptographic hash; we cannot read it.
• Payment records — the confirmation our payment provider sends us when a payment completes, kept exactly as it arrives. It identifies the transaction and the payment method: the amount and currency, whether the payment succeeded, our own payment reference, our payment provider's own transaction number and its message about the outcome, when it was paid, the provider's fee, the payment channel used, the email address the payment was made with (which may not be your account address), and for a card payment the last four digits, the card's issuing range, and a token the provider issues for that card that could be used to charge it again — we have no recurring charges and never use it. Because we keep the confirmation as sent, anything else the provider chooses to include in it is stored with it. We never see or store card numbers. The full number, the security code printed on the card and your banking login never reach us at all.
• Activity and fitness data — if you connect a fitness tracker or account (e.g., Strava), we read activities and daily totals on your own authorisation, read-only; we derive a fitness estimate used to seed the prediction band. Nothing is written back to your device or account, ever. Your fitness provider collects Usage Data through the connection, and you withdraw that authorisation through your account with them, not us.

We don't sell or share your information with anyone, and we don't use tracking or advertising cookies — the only cookie is the one that keeps you signed in. To have your account and data deleted, email support@race-well.com from your account address and we'll action it within a reasonable time. [2026-09-16] Data now arrives to us from a third party (your fitness provider) when you connect, and the authorisation for that connection lives with them, not with us — you withdraw it from your account with them.

Access to your data: You have the right to access the data RaceWell has collected through your fitness provider. To request access to your activity data, contact us at support@race-well.com.

Your fitness provider's data use: Your fitness provider collects information about how you use our service and their own service in connection with your account. Your fitness provider's use of that Usage Data is governed by their own terms of service and privacy policy. You should review their policies to understand how your Usage Data is being used and stored.

7. Weather data attribution

Forecast data is provided by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway / YR) under the Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence.

For dates beyond the live forecast horizon we show typical conditions rather than a forecast. Those figures are derived from Open-Meteo's ERA5-Land and ERA5 reanalysis datasets, also under the Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence. We name the two datasets separately because they are not the same resolution: ERA5-Land carries temperature at roughly 9 km and carries no wind at all, so the wind comes from ERA5 proper at roughly 28 km. The wind is coarser than the temperature shown beside it, and we say so rather than leaving you to assume otherwise. Typical conditions are a ten-year median for the same calendar window, and are never presented as a forecast.

8. Map imagery

The satellite and aerial imagery shown under your route is supplied by Esri, through its ArcGIS Location Platform, and is displayed under Esri's own terms of use.

By using that imagery you agree to comply with the applicable terms, which Esri publishes as its ArcGIS Location Platform Agreement.
